Bigleaf maple is a giant native tree of the Pacific Northwest. For a few weeks in April, before the leaves fully open, its flowers bloom and release nectar that most people — even beekeepers — have never tasted honey from.
Our bees do. They work it hard for the brief window it's open, and what they make is unlike any other honey we produce: pale gold, delicate, with a subtle earthy sweetness and a clean, almost buttery finish. It's a collector's honey. Serious beekeepers in Oregon trade it. Most never sell it because there's so little.
This year's harvest is nearly gone — just 2 barrels left. Once they're gone, the next chance is April 2027.
